Let's Swim
We teach people of all ages to swim using fully qualified ASA/NPLQ Teachers
Our groups are small - only 4 per class for beginners/improvers
Our regular children's term-time classes teach your child to become water-proficient
We have programmes to suit everyone, or ask about our individual 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 swimming instruction to meet your exact needs.
Our experienced teachers are fully qualified, friendly, approachable and skilled in encouraging the most timid of swimmers.
We teach everyone in a small and relaxed environment that nurtures progress - from the first tentative strokes through the development of confidence boosting techniques and speed through to the advanced swimmer.
Guy Patterson founded Patterson Penguin's in 1999.
Guy has a passion and dedication to teaching people to swim. Having been a swimming instructor for over 40 years, he is also a qualified lifeguard and the father of three mermaids (all of whom are excellent swimmers of course!). He recently became the proud grandfather to a little merman, and is looking forward to teaching him to become as keen and excellent swimmer as he can be.

We offer a structured programme of swimming lessons designed to encourage, improve and reward effort by following the nationally recgnised ASA Awards Scheme.
This Scheme provides a sense of achievement for all levels of ability and rewards swimmers with certificates and badges on completion of attainable goals.

Term Time & Holiday Classes are held at The Mall, Twickenham
Swimmers are placed in a class according to their level of ability.

Term Time and Holiday Course Classes
Penguins - Beginners to 10m (Stage 1 & 2) - spaces
Sea Horses - Able to swim 10 to 25 metres front and back
(Stage 3 & 4) - spaces
Sea Lions - Able to swim 10 to 25 metres front crawl and back crawl (Stage 4 & 5) - spaces
Dolphins - Able to swim 25 to 50 metres front and back using two recognised strokes (Stages 5 & 6) - spaces
Sharks - Able to swim 100 metres using two recognised strokes
(Stage 7 & 8) - spaces
Club - Able to swim 600+ metres using three recognised strokes - spaces

Tuesday's - 6th Jan to 24th March - No lesson 24th Feb for 1/2 term
Thursday's - 8th Jan to 26th March - No lesson 26th Feb for 1/2 term
Friday's - 9th Jan to 27th March - No lesson 27th Feb for 1/2 term
Saturday's - 10th Jan to 28th March - No lesson 28th Feb for 1/2 term
Summer Term Dates 2026
Tuesday's- 21st April to 14th July - No lesson 26th May for 1/2 term
Thursday's- 23th April to 16th July - No lesson 28th May for 1/2 term
Friday's- 24th April to 17th July - No lesson 29th May for 1/2 term
Saturday's- 25th April to 18th July - No lesson 30th May for 1/2 term
Holiday/Crash Courses – held at The Mall School only also include:
Baby Penguins - Classes for Parent and Baby – 6 to 18 month
Toddler Penguins - Classes for Parent and Baby – 18 to 36 months
(parent in the water)
Mixed - Able to swim 50 metres using two recognised strokes – a fun way to learn skills at 5 different activities – stroke technique, diving, water skills, rookie lifesaving and snorkelling
Snorkelling - Able to swim 50 metres using two recognised strokes
Diving - Able to swim 50 metres using two recognised strokes (basic dives, racing starts and turns) – a great opportunity for club swimmers to improve their times.
Made to Measure - Join with three+ friends and make up your own class – talk to us for more information
Private Classes - One to One or Two to One
Adults - Private one to one or group lessons (all abilities from beginners to improvers)

Term dates and additional information can be found on the website.
Refund Policy - Payments are non-refundable. If Patterson's Penguins aren't able to run lessons for reasons beyond our control, including due to a change in Government Covid-19 regulations, lessons will be put on hold until we're able to resume and complete missed sessions.
